News from Nara…

Recently, in Nara (Japan), an exciting discovery was made.

Researchers found a large sized sword and bronze mirror (shield)
in a 4th-century burial mound. The burial mound within the
city of Nara.

These discoveries were found back in November of 2022,
before the new year.

The mirror appears to be a type of shield and the sword, which is a “Dako Sword”,
is about 7-feet long.

Both of these items will be classified as “national treasures”.

Also the mirror shield, which is said to weigh in at about 125 pounds,
is said to be the first discovery of it’s kind.

That’s exciting!

Also, because of the sword’s extreme size, it is believed to be a ceremonial
item, rather than a real weapon.

Very interesting.

Perhaps more discoveries will be made in the future.

But these new found national treasures are a
significant find.
