Bears can be cute and cuddly, and
sometimes they can be big and scary…
So for fun, here are 10 interesting things about bears:
- Bears are found on every continent except Australia and Antarctica.
- There are eight species of bears: polar bears, brown bears, black bears,
Asiatic black bears, sloth bears, sun bears, spectacled bears, and giant
pandas. - Polar bears are the largest species of bear and can weigh over 1,000
pounds. - Bears have an incredible sense of smell and can detect scents from up to a
mile away. - Black bears can run up to 30 miles per hour.
- Grizzly bears can have fur that ranges from blonde to black, and they
get their name from the grizzled appearance of their fur. - Polar bears are the only bear species considered to be marine mammals,
as they spend most of their time on sea ice hunting for food. - Sloth bears have a unique way of eating: they use their long snouts to
suck up termites and ants, and they are also able to close their nostrils
to keep out the insects. - The sun bear is the smallest species of bear, and they have a distinctive orange
patch on their chest. - Some bear species, like the giant panda, have a highly specialized diet and eat
almost exclusively bamboo.
