…and success—sort of.

Kaoru Art World Ghibli Studios Exhibit

Recently I posted about our being “denied”.

When I and my husband went all the way out to
Kobe in the pouring rain, only to be denied
entering the World Famous Ghibli
exhibit—all the way from Tokyo, Japan.

But we did manage to get a reservation
for the following week!

And despite the downpour of rain (AGAIN),
we did succeed at seeing the exhibit–(sort of).

I’ll explain the “sort of” part…
later.

And…

If you know Ghibli, the you probably
are familiar with the name:

Hayao Miyazaki

A short list of popular Hayao Miyazaki’s works,
with both the English and Japanese names:

-Spirited Away
千と千尋の神隠し
(Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi )

Princess Mononoke
もののけ姫
(Mononoke Hime)
-My Neighbor Totoro
となりのトトロ
(Tonari No Totoro)

…and many others

And at the exhibit…

If you have seen “Spirited Away”
then you probably remember this
life size scene from the movie:

and this life size bus from the movie
My Neighbor Totoro” :

And…

The detailed models they build before transforming
them to the animated movie are incredible, here is
one:

The exhibit showed all of the numerous and
breath taking steps that go into making the
animated movies.

No wonder they are so…

World Famous

And…

The “Sort Of” part.

1. The rain was awful

2. It was cold and windy too

3. The staff at the exhibit
were…”left much to be desired”
(To put it politely)

4. The system and the
exhibit—while
amazing
—were
confusing, unclear,
and garbled.

5. And we were not the only ones,
others were visibly distressed.

6. All exhibit viewers were forced to
continually show their tickets.
Again and again and again.
At every section.

7. Even to enter the gift shop, you
had to show the ticket
AGAIN!

8. In the gift shop, the staff were constantly
barking at customers to get in line, buy stuff,
and leave—so much for “enjoying” buying
trinkets and gifts—Unbelievable

…and lastly

Since it was raining, at the entrance you had
to lock your umbrella in the umbrella holders.
And remember the code to unlock it.

We did remember our codes.

And it worked for my husband.

But mine jammed.

So I had to get a staff to come, and we had to
fill out a one page information form.
(Thinking they would later mail us the umbrella?)

But…

Then after filling out the form, the staff member
took out a key and unlocked it—after 3 tries—it was
really jammed.

So why the form?

A “penalty” for THEIR system not working?

Seems that way.

I don’t think we will be going to that museum
again any time soon…

Perhaps ever.

But…

We did enjoy fun shopping with “no tickets”
or any other hassles—and then some coffee
and yummies after that.

And…

No need for tickets or any other hassles when
doing fun shopping here:

Enjoy!
