Storm Warning…
So we recently had a typhoon warning in Japan, and
the typhoon came last week.
And the storm warning went out.
Schools shut down, and places that were likely to be
hit hard took cover, boarded up. and secured things.
And so…
One might wonder…
What is the difference between a hurricane and a typhoon?
The easy and quick answer is that they are the same thing.
But…
More specifically:
The main difference between a hurricane and a typhoon lies
in the regions where they occur. The terms “hurricane” and
“typhoon” are used to describe the same meteorological
phenomenon, but they are used in different parts of the world.
A hurricane refers to a tropical cyclone that forms over the Atlantic
Ocean or the eastern Pacific Ocean. In the Atlantic, hurricanes
typically originate in the tropical or subtropical regions and move
westward towards the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, or the eastern coast
of the United States. They are named hurricanes in this region.
On the other hand…
A typhoon is the term used for the same type of cyclone that forms
over the western Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. Typhoons
generally develop in the northwest Pacific Ocean and move westward,
affecting countries such as Japan, China, Taiwan, the Philippines, and
other neighboring regions. The term “typhoon” is used to name
these storms.
So I was a little worried, since the warning wasn’t official
until 9am that day.
And my husband and I were out at different locations.
So yes, when the warning was made official, I became worried.
Because typhoons can do a lot of damage.
And…
-trains and other transportation stops.
-traffic jams become absolute nightmares.
– places shut down
…and so on.
Luckily, we both made it home safe and aside from
some strong winds and A LOT of rain, we were okay.
